Egg whites have been used for thousands of years in the beauty routines of the elite class. They were used all over the ancient world to lighten skin tones and tighten wrinkled and saggy skin. As it turns out, they may have been on to something. Egg whites contain protein to help with elasticity and collagen for plumping fine lines and wrinkles. They also contain vitamin A, which is a retinol and helps to speed up the turnover rate of your skin cells. From acne and tightening skin, to adding shine to hair, these puppies pack a powerful punch.

The recipe is pretty simple and can be used for many different things. Just separate the yolk from the whites of 2 eggs and apply them to the skin with a brush, or your fingertips if you have acneic or sensitive skin. Let them dry completely on the skin, around 15 mins, then wash off with warm water. That’s it! This will help control the production of sebum, which will help bring the blackheads out of the pores as well as shrink them. This same recipe will also tighten the skin and help diminish the look of fine lines. Try it a couple of times a week and see the benefits!

If puffiness under the eye is an issue for you, take the egg white and apply it directly to the under eye with your ring finger. Take care to stay on the orbital bone and not get too close to the actual eye. Allow that to dry for a few minutes, and then apply a second coat. After it dries completely, around 15 mins, rinse thoroughly with warm water. The egg whites will tighten the pores and enhances circulation, which helps reduce the appearance of puffiness.

Egg whites work the same magic on an oily scalp. Just whip a couple of egg whites into a frothy texture and add about a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice to give it an appealing scent. Apply the mask directly to scalp and work it through to the ends. It’s probably a good idea to put on a shower cap, since this mask can be a bit messy. Let it sit for 10 mins then rinse out with warm water. Don’t shampoo the mask out of your hair because it will cancel out the benefits. Your hair will be shiny, but not oily, and perfectly balanced!

So, the next time you have skin that is less than satisfactory, just grab a couple of eggs out of the fridge and have a beauty party! It’s super easy and far less expensive than going to the spa. Some of the tightening benefits can be temporary, so plan ahead for special evenings. Also, if you are allergic to eggs when you eat them, you probably have skin allergies to them as well, so just be careful.
